Even on the normal day to day basis, london can be quite a dangerous place due to the bustling people just trying to mind their own business. The huge crowds on every street can make it easier for crimes to be committed as most things are covered or not seen. Of course, it’s important to be safe wherever you are, and not everyone is a criminal, but big and busy cities could make anyone cautious.
At the beginning of this week, a mugging happened to someone close to me and a group of her friends. They were on their way home from a party of which one of the group was a DJ at. They were at the back of a large crowd of people that were just enjoying the nightlife of London, however they were relatively far behind this mass of people. Being regular attendees to the later scenes of the city, their safety wasn’t the first thing on their mind so they were just having fun and messing around like any group of friends really would.
“Out of nowhere,” one of the group of three say, “a woman in dirty clothes came at-” names have been requested to remain anonymous - “swinging a bottle for her head.” the one who told me this also said she managed to pull her friend away from the main harshness of the blow, but a gash was still left on the back of her friend’s head.
After this another member of the group said, “then a load of other people that seemed to followed the woman came out and crowded around them in clumps.”
All three of the young girls got beaten up badly that night in events they claim happened so quick and in the dark so they couldn’t catch everything that was happening. But one sprained her hand and had large, painful bruises on her legs; another still has a lump on the back of her head from the impact of the bottle and had a black eye; and the third’s injury is unknown to me.
Phones and wallets were stolen from each of the girls.
This just proves that everyone should be safe wherever they go and ensure that safety is constantly on their minds so that they don’t end up in a situation like this.
