A mum who started a business after her daughter wanted a pink locker for Christmas has seen her quirky product featured in The Glades shopping centre.

Danielle Hewlett-Boyle, 38, said her daughter Leah asked for a colourful locker for her bedroom two years ago when she was 11.

"She thought school here would be like in America where you could decorate your own locker," the mum told News Shopper.

"I struggled so badly to find an affordable pink one. I bought my own industrial one, sprayed it pink and decorated it inside with magnetic accessories."

Danielle, who was on maternity leave at the time, spoke to her friend Lara Hobbs, 40, about starting My Locker World together in July 2016.

The pair had previously worked as managers at Gap in Bromley for 19 years.

The Beckenham mums, who have seven children between them, have now applied for television programme Dragons Den in hopes of finding an investor.

"We are the only company in the world to do this," Danielle said. "We sold a lot of accessories in The Glades for children to decorate their school lockers.

"It is a personal space for kids. It is also great for siblings sharing a room, the lockers look nice and children can create their own little world.

"They can be creative in their own little space."

The Glades allowed the company to run a free pop-up stall for three days last week.

Danielle hopes they can become a permanent asset for the shopping centre with talks currently being held.

More than 400 lockers have been manufactured since the business started, with deliveries reaching as far as southern France.

Danielle acknowledged that the past two years have been challenging but the mums are now starting to see rewards.

She said: "To say it has been hard work is an understatement but we have never given up and this business is now being supported all over Bromley."
