Dartford schoolchildren are getting ready to take part in this year's Festival of Light in the town.

The festival, in its 10th year, will be held on Friday, October 19 and will begin with a lantern parade heading towards Hythe Street.

The parade will travel through Suffolk Road, before passing the Orchards Shopping Centre and heading back on itself. The parade will finish at 7pm at Central Park.

Once it reaches the park, the festival will end with a fireworks display finale which is scheduled to start at 7.25pm.

Festival-goers will be treated to performances from Folk in Fusion Drumming Collective, Bloco Fogo Samba and stilt walking band, Stilt Batteristas.

Twelve Dartford-based schools will be taking part in the event, including Westgate Primary, Our Lady of Hartley, St Anselm's RC Primary, Joydens Wood Junior, Temple Hill Primary, Oakfield Primary Academy, West Hill Primary, The Brent and Dartford Bridge.

Jeremy Kite, leader of Dartford Council, said: “It’s wonderful that the Festival of Light is now celebrating its tenth year in Dartford.

"It’s a tremendous event bringing together schools from across the borough to create an amazing evening of colour, music and energy.

"It truly is a wonderful sight to see and if you haven’t been before make this year the year you join us for the Dartford Festival of Light.”
