A Swanley man has been arrested and charged after allegedly breaking into a house and stealing his victim’s car.

William Lee, 41, of Alexandra Close, is alleged to have broken into and burgled a house in Tonbridge at around 3.30am on Wednesday, October 10.

The female victim is reported to have woken up to sounds of a disturbance in her house in Quarry Hill Road.

The woman went downstairs and discovered cash and car keys missing from a handbag. It is alleged her vehicle, a Vauxhall Vectra, was then stolen from the driveway.

A short time later the car was identified and stopped by officers in the Mottingham area.

Lee was arrested and subsequently charged with burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

He has been remanded in custody to appear via virtual link, before Medway Magistrates’ Court today (October 12).

Officers are also investigating a suspicious incident at another address in Quarry Hill Road, where it is reported that during the same morning there was an attempted burglary.
