A desperate son is appealing for his lost hat to be returned after it was given to him by his dad when he was a young boy.

Richard Akers bought the Formula 1 cap for his son 14 years ago after taking him to watch the races in Monte Carlo.

His son, Tom Akers, now 20, was six-years-old at the time and has cherished the hat ever since.

However, just one month after his dad died of cancer, Tom lost the racing cap after clubbing in the early hours of Saturday (October 6) morning.

He said: “I broke down by the bus stop at Sainsbury’s in Bromley South and I lost it there.

“I managed to lose my hat. I had been drinking a lot. This is very sentimental to me and it was so silly to wear it out to a club.”

Tom said the formula 1 hat is very distinctive and said he can’t find replicas on the internet.

“It is driving me crazy,” he said. “I am even dreaming about this hat. If someone found it the pressure would be lifted.

“It would mean the world to get it back. I would happily give a reward if it is found. I have not had any luck so far.”
