Take a peek inside News Shopper on a busy news week and you will probably think the world is getting nearer to the apocalypse.  

But whether that's due to the nature of news or because the world is actually getting worse still remains to be seen.

Man makes donation after Biggin Hill butchers charity box stolen

News Shopper:

A man who did not want to be named donated £76.30 to a dog rescue charity after reading a story in News Shopper.

On September 27, three women allegedly snatched a charity box destined for Silver Fox Dog Rescue from a butchers in Biggin Hill.

Patsy Barlett, whose family run the butchers, told News Shopper a gentleman left a donation for the charity without giving his name.

She added the man offered the money after reading about the theft in News Shopper.

These amazing views of London have been restored in Chelsfield Common

A vantage point in Chelsfield was restored, after it had fallen into  disrepair. 

The viewpoint map at Chelsfield Common, behind the car park at the junction of Warren Road and The Highway, was updated and repaired by Friends of Warren Road.

An artist painted an impression of the view and a local builder rebuilt the pillar.

Landmarks on the map include the Shard, Bromley Town Centre, the Crystal Palacemast in the west, Bexleyheath and the Dartford Thames Crossing in the east.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich revamps post-surgery care unit

News Shopper:

Queen Elizabeth Hospital has reopened an improved service for patients on its post-surgery care ward.

The hospital plans to "ring-fence" the beds so they are used exclusively by patients recovering from surgery.

Staff celebrated the new ward on September 26, when it was reopened by Ben Travis, chief executive of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

Dr Paolo Sorelli, consultant colorectal surgeon, said: “It has taken a huge amount of hard work and planning to get to this stage and I’d like to thank all our staff."

Alice King returns home after being missing for almost two weeks

News Shopper:

A mum-of-two who went missing for nearly two weeks returned home safe and sound.

Alice King, 37, from Nunhead, had last been seen on August 24 on Manwood Road, Crofton Park.

A social media campaign to find her was started in the hope someone might find her.

Her sister, Emma Lucy King, told News Shopper: "We are just so glad to have her home."

Woman who hid in Chislehurst Caves during Blitz set to return

News Shopper:

A woman, from Chislehurst, 87, returned to the caves where she lived for 10 months as a child to hide from falling bombs.

The tour guide operators for the Chislehurst Caves offered to host Jill Cheeseman and her family for a reunion. 

Mrs Cheeseman said: “It sounds silly but I wasn’t unhappy down there.

“It was scary at first, but we used to play truth and dare with other kids and we would go into out-of-bounds parts.

“I had some lovely friends down there.”

Cutest police dogs ever? Meet Greenwich police's 'attack' animals

Greenwich police tweeted a picture of their new 'attack dogs' receiving training in their high-vis police jackets. 

The Met's latest recruits are extremely little dogs but there is no doubt they are extremely ferocious too.

In a tweet, Greenwich police wrote: "#ProjectServator officers training the Mets new attack dogs at @TheO2 this afternoon."
