A building society in West Wickham has been cordoned off by police after a fire damaged its ATM.

Firefighters were called to Nationwide in West Wickham High Street shortly after 3am this morning after police on patrol spotted the fire.

After the fire was put out, the ATM was heavily damaged but no cash had been stolen.

A police patrol car was still stationed outside the building society during rush hour this morning, with the pavement outside cordoned off.

Glass in the front window has shattered and remains all over the floor outside, while the cash machine has been burnt out.

A Met Police spokeswoman said the incident is being treated as suspicious. Enquiries continue.
