Media outlets often are portrayed as only covering negative news, and such criticism is sometimes aimed at News Shopper too.

Despite reporting some gloomy stories in the past month, we wanted to show you that it wasn’t all doom and gloom.

Here is a list of positive and even inspiring stories that should make you proud of being from south east London.

These amazing views of London have been restored in Chelsfield Common

You don’t have to be in London to appreciate its skyline after a vantage point in Chelsfield was restored. The area is known as Chelsfield Common and is located behind the car park at the junction of Warren Road and The Highway.

Brian Willson, secretary of Friends of Warren Road, has helped rebuild the viewpoint after the original pillar was in a state of disrepair. He said he was “extremely proud” to update the site which was previously earmarked as an area for a new road before the M25 was built.

Abandoned kittens rehomed by Battersea Cats and Dogs Home

Four young kittens found abandoned in a box have been rehomed, with the help of Battersea Cats and Dogs Home. The eight-week-old kittens, named Gina, Gwen, Grace and George by staff, were spotted by a family beside some bins outside a block of flats in Ilford, East London.

Their rescuers took them to the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s Brands Hatch centre in Kent, where fortunately they were found to be in good health and even ‘quite playful’. After spending four weeks recuperating in a foster home they were taken to new, permanent homes last week.

Two strangers come to aid of 91-year-old who broke down on Crofton Road

The family of an elderly man from Orpington has thanked the two anonymous strangers who helped him to safety after his car broke down on a busy road. John Cooper, 91, was driving to an appointment at a car garage in Bromley on Friday, September 7 at about 1.30pm when his engine struggled and he came to a stop in Crofton Road.

"It was on quite a nasty bend, right by the church," his daughter, Frances Maxwell, told News Shopper. Mrs Maxwell added her father was left in a difficult situation and had to "just wait" for somebody to come to his aid after his car came to a stop - but luckily, two strangers jumped in to help. After one woman got out of her car and tried to push Mr Cooper's car into a side road, he worried she would exert herself too much.
