Eltham College students have raised money to support four Ugandan children.

The College is sponsoring the children through the charity, International Needs, and they have been working together for the past two years with clean water projects.

Students have undertaken a range of fundraising challenges including the Three Peaks Challenge and Welsh 3000s prior to having the opportunity to visit the country to see how their fundraising has made a huge difference to the communities there.

During their time in Uganda students help plan and build wells and latrines, find out more about the community their funds will help and engage with the local communities to learn more about each others cultures and customs.

On the last trip to Uganda students met four children who the College is now sponsoring through its house system.

The sponsorship covers the costs of their education and gives the children access to clean water and two meals a day.

Historically Eltham College was founded for the sons of missionaries, some of whom sought to spread the word of Christianity in Africa. Eltham College’s four houses are named after four missionaries who travelled the world; David Livingstone in Africa, William Carey in India, James Chalmers in Papua New Guinea and Robert Moffatt in Southern Africa.

Each house will be responsible for organising further charity events to raise money to continue the sponsorship of each child.
