A family home in Park Hill Rise could be demolished to make way for a block of nine flats.

The proposal to replace the five bedroom detached house with a three storey block of flats is set to be discussed by Croydon Council’s planning committee on Thursday (September 27).

The application was referred to the planning committee by Cllr Vidhi Mohan who objects to the plans.

It was submitted by Mantle Developments Ltd and the proposal is recommended for approval by the council.

As well as six two-bedroom flats and three three-bedroom flats the plans include nine car parking spaces and 18 for bicycles.

Overall, public consultation on the plans received 95 responses 46 objecting and 49 in support.

But a report going to the planning committee said: “21 of the supporting comments came from addresses outside of the borough and a further 15 came from addresses not close to Park Hill Rise.

“There are also a number of supporting comments which have been submitted on a multiple basis (i.e. from the same addresses).”

Objections include that there is not enough parking on the site and the three-storey building is not in keeping with the area.

The report set to be discussed by councillors states: “The proposed development would create a good quality residential accommodation that would make a positive contribution to the borough’s housing stock and would make a small contribution to the Council achieving its housing targets as set out in the London Plan (2016) and its own Croydon Local Plan 2018.

“The level of parking provision is considered appropriate, striking the appropriate balance between promoting sustainable modes of transport, whilst providing some car parking space capacity.

“The proposed development would not have an adverse impact on the operation of the highway.”

The planning committee will meet at Croydon Town Hall from 5.30pm on Thursday, September 27.
