A meeting has been arranged to discuss thefts from lockers at a swimming pool in Forest Hill after News Shopper highlighted the issue.

Forest Hill Pools in Dartmouth Road has been the target for thieves in the past few months with one man having his keys stolen from his locker before his car was then nicked.

Fusion, which manages the leisure centre, is now taking action after reading a story on News Shopper.

In a message seen by this publication, Fusion Lewisham wrote: "We would like to meet with staff at Forest Pool to discuss the recent events at the centre and the News Shopper article."

It has now released a statement confirming a meeting will be held in October.

The statement read: "We are terribly sorry about recent events at Forest Hill Pool, and have spoken to the police and councillors about this issue and rest assured we take this very seriously.

"We like yourselves are saddened at the thefts as we want our venue to be a safe and enjoyable space for all our customers."

Several social media posts have encouraged people to leave valuables at home when going to the swimming pool and councillors Leo Gibbons and Peter Bernards have also raised security concerns.

Cllr Gibbons told News Shopper: "I’ve been told of at least two separate break-ins in the changing room lockers that have taken place in the last week.

"I have requested a meeting with one of their senior managers, in the hope that they can explain the situation and tell me what remedial action they are taking to improve security."

The meeting is at Forest Hill Pool on October 6 and will start at 6pm.
