There has been a big increase in the number of serious sexual assaults recorded in Greenwich, according to a new report.

Figures show there has been an increase of 25 per cent in sexual offences in the last year.

The numbers come from a report set to be heard next week highlighting the picture in Greenwich for the Met’s priorities.

Sexual violence is one of five key areas for the Met, as set out by City Hall.

According to the report: “There were 619 serious sexual offences in Greenwich in the 12 months July 2017 to June 2018, an increase of 24.5 per cent (122 offences) on the previous 12 months.

” Greenwich was ‘ranked’ 24th for the level of offences in the last 12 months (where 1 is the borough with the lowest level of offences), compared

to 20th the previous year.”

In the same period the Met recorded an increase of 13 per cent across London.

The worst affected ward has been Kidbrooke and Hornfair, which has had an increase of 112.5 per cent – with 34 offences committed in the last year.

The Mayor’s Office for Police and Crime (MOPAC) also lists domestic abuse, weapon-enabled crime, hate crime and anti-social behaviour as priorities for the capital.

in Greenwich, burglary is also a key area for policing, and there has been a big jump in offences.

There has been an increase of nearly 40 per cent in burglaries in the borough, ranking it 11th in the capital (where one is the lowest).

There were 1,691 burglaries last year, an increase of 468 on the same period in the 12 months before.

According to the report the increase could be down to a shift in the way increases are recorded by the police, as thefts from sheds and outbuildings were not previously classed as residential burglaries.

The report will be discussed at a meeting of the council’s Safety and Environment Scrutiny panel on Thursday, September 20.
