As schools across Bexley bring in their new head boys and head girls, MP Teresa Pearce lent a hand in vote counting for one Belvedere primary school.

The MP for Erith and Thamesmead visited Belvedere Junior School to help in the election process, when pupils voted for their new student representatives.

After votes had been counted, Teresa announced the winners and welcomed them into their new roles.

The MP said: “This is a fantastic school; it was a pleasure to meet so many engaged and enthusiastic pupils and staff.

"The developments in the building and the grounds have created a bright and happy learning environment. I can’t wait to come back later this year to meet the School Council”

Belvedere Junior School has recently been ranked in the top 20 per cent of UK schools for student progress.

Headteacher Becky Lomax thanked the MP for her visit.

She said: "Our children are very proud of the progress that they achieve here and they were thrilled to be given an opportunity to share such a special day with their local MP.”
