An Orpington couple who lost their daughter to a brain tumour are determined to help doctors find a cure for the deadly disease.

Amelia Reedy, 43, died in August 2017 after being diagnosed with incurable Glioblastoma Multiforme three years earlier.

Her parents, John and Jane Elliott, are refusing to rest until a cure for these types of brain tumours is found.

Jane, 67, told News Shopper: “Amelia had a tough life. Her husband died of cancer three months after their baby boy was born.

“To then be diagnosed with the worst kind of brain tumour was so tragic.”

She said it was devastating to watch her daughter’s quality of life deteriorate with each procedure.

John, 69, and Jane watched Amelia lose the ability to speak or walk in her final few months.

The couple are now raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity to help experts move a step closer to finding a cure.

On September 28, John and Jane are travelling to Spain to walk 118km along the Camino de Santiago in memory of Amelia.

“She would be over the moon with us and so proud,” mum Jane said.

“Our aim is to complete the challenge in seven days and it helps keeps us connected to her and her illness. That’s why we are doing this.”

Jane said her sympathies lie with Amelia’s little boy, Ethan, who has now moved to Australia.

“It is so sad for him. I hope he is going to look back on fond memories one day. I feel mostly sad for him.”

Mum Jane said she will remember her daughter’s kindness and wisdom the most.

She is now resolute in her ambition to raise as much awareness as she can in the hope a cure can finally be found.
