Transport for London has revealed plans to build 3,000 homes over Tube stations across the city, and Woolwich is a proposed space.

Later this month TfL will launch its search for a partner to create a build-to-rent joint venture to help deliver homes on its land.

There are currently 10 sites identified for building properties over existing stations and car parks.

One of these is Woolwich, which will be the station created when the Elizabeth line is finally opened to the public.

The original date for Crossrail to open was December this year but it has since been revealed it won’t be open until next autumn.

The new builds will contribute toward TfL’s commitment to deliver 50 per cent affordable housing across its portfolio of sites.

Using a build-to-rent approach will allow TfL to deliver homes more quickly, retain a long-term interest in the future development of its significant property estate; and create a stable long-term income stream.

TfL has plans to build more than 10,000 homes on its portfolio across the capital.

Graeme Craig, director of commercial development at TfL, said: "Making this significant move into the build-to-rent sector has huge benefits for TfL and London as a whole.

“We want to help meet London's critical need by building thousands of homes at pace, including high levels of affordable homes.

“We also want to create a legacy of high-quality homes across London that will create sustainable long-term revenue for TfL.

"Built-to-rent allows us to achieve both these aims - and we will looking for a partner who shares our ambition to create the most important property portfolio in London."
