An Epsom adventure park and zoo has “joined the catering elite” after receiving high praise at a prestigious awards ceremony in London.

Hobbledown, in Horton Lane, was named a finalist in the ‘Menu of the Year’ category, hosted by Sports and Leisure Catering Magazine.

These awards aim to recognise the “very best” in the catering industry, being staged at the famous British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Theatre in Piccadilly.

Hobbledown was beaten to the gong by Galvin at Centurion, from the Michelin-starred Galvin brothers.

However, they were shortlisted for their “use of flair, originality, popularity, and world-influenced flavours”.

General manager David Long said: “Hobbledown has won a plethora of awards within the leisure and attractions industry and, whilst we never take any of this for granted, it was truly our honour, privilege, and pleasure to be nominated for the ‘Menu of the Year’ award in such a high-calibre competition.

“The food and beverage team should be extremely proud of their Hobnosh achievements.”

The Hobnosh menu features dishes from continents across the globe – Asia, Africa, Europe, as well as north and south America.

Joint owner Richard Farley said: “Picky or fussy eating can prevent children from gaining enough nutrition or their five-a-day.

“Encouraging kids at an early age to have a broader appetite will not only provide necessary nutrition but also boost their immunity.

“At Hobbledown we want to encourage kids to explore the dishes featured on our menu just like they do on our play equipment.

“It’s an adventure in itself.”
