Police are hunting two moped users who they believe committed three robberies in under 30 minutes.

Safia Kamel, 28, witnessed the second of these robberies which police say are all linked.

The Kingston University student was waiting for a bus with her boyfriend near Crystal Palace Parade on Saturday (September 15) morning before hearing a commotion.

She told News Shopper: “It all happened so fast but I noticed an elderly woman was extremely shaken up and being comforted by two members of the public.

“I was told two people had driven up on mopeds and snatched her handbag.”

Safia called the police who arrived a short time later.

She added: “Police informed my partner and I that there had been other attacks locally.

“I was fairly anxious to get on my way at that point as I was late to meet my own grandmother and I was thinking the absolute worst with these moped gangs on the loose.”

The student added the two moped users were dressed entirely in black with helmets shielding their faces.

A spokeswoman from the Met Police confirmed a woman in her 70s had her handbag stolen around 11.16am.

This came minutes after a woman in her 80s was pulled to the floor and had her handbag snatched in Barry Road.

Police added that around 11.22am another victim had a bag taken at the junction of Annerly Road and Hamlet Road.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
