An empty car park in Maze Hill could get a new lease of life as a block of flats.
A developer has proposed an apartment complex for the car park in Greenwich Park Street.
The site has not been in operation since 2015, when it was linked to the nearby Greenwich Teaching NHS Primary Care Trust – based in a building which itself has been turned into apartments.
Developer Lynas Smith plans to build seven apartments along with parking spaces in a two and three-storey building.
It said in its planning application: “The proposed development will deliver distinct benefits, representing a positive investment in the area and delivering new housing on this unused site and enhancing the street scene through high quality and sensitive design.”
A total of three parking spaces has been included in the scheme, along with bike spaces.
A consultation highlighted neighbours’ concerns that the design of the apartments would be too modern and would be out of character with the area.
According to the developer: “There were mixed views about the design; some residents felt that this was too contemporary for the area, whereas others felt that it would be an appropriate addition to the area.
“There was a general feeling that the site was underused, and that a scheme of this scale would be an appropriate addition to the area.”
The scheme is being considered by planning officers at the council.
