A 15-year-old girl will have to "learn to walk" again after being knocked down by a suspected dangerous driver in Abbey Wood.

Phoebe Hutley, of Blithdale Road, Plumstead, suffered a broken pelvis and leg after being hit by a car in Penmon Road on August 6.

The schoolgirl is currently in Kings College Hospital, where her grandmother Debbie Derrick said she will have to stay for at least three months.

Phoebe is one of four children to single mother Layla Hutley who hasn’t left her daughter's side.

Layla told News Shopper: "She will be in hospital for three months and then she will have to go into rehabilitations and will have to learn how to walk again.

"At the moment her pelvis is broken in two places and tomorrow they are putting in pins and plates.

"It will be a long road to the end and Phoebe's injuries are horrific. It's just not fair."

Layla said that the trauma ward sister was shocked by Phoebe’s injuries and said this was the worst case they had seen in a very long time.

Debbie continued :“She (Phoebe) has to lie flat on her back. She has three operation scheduled for her pelvis on Friday. She is one of the bravest girls I know.”

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and taken to a south London police station.

He has since been released under investigation.
