The Swan in West Wickham will be getting a new beer garden after being named the loudest pub in the country to watch this summer's thrilling World Cup.

The boozer on West Wickham High Street was crowned the King of Pubs for being the most atmospheric venue in Britain during England's unexpected journey to the semi-final.

The Budweiser competition saw 10 pubs and their punters battle it out for the 10 grand prize.

Budweiser’s prize money will be invested into a new beer garden for the West Wickham pub.

The Swan accumulated 63,624.02 decibels during the World Cup, closely followed by The Murderers in Norwich, which scored 56,058.02 decibels.

Neil Howley, general manager of The Swan, said: “I’m absolutely ecstatic about winning Budweiser’s King of Pubs.

“Throughout the tournament, I’ve seen the whole community come together and it’s encouraged people I’ve never seen before from the local area to come into the pub and enjoy being part of the atmosphere.

“It’s thanks to the locals and the hard work of my staff that we got this far, and I can’t thank them enough. They’ve made the past five weeks exactly what football should all about – community and euphoria.”

Sascha Cordes, senior brand manager at Budweiser, added: "England’s dramatic run to the semi-finals will live long in the memories of fans everywhere.

"On behalf of everyone at Budweiser, I would like to congratulate The Swan on winning the King of Pubs tournament and we look forward to seeing how the £10,000 futures grant will help deliver new opportunities to the pub and its local community.”
