Almost two hectares of land have been damaged after a grass fire broke out in Slade Green Park this afternoon (July 6).
Two fire crews spent more than an hour bringing the fire under control after being called to Whitehall Lane in Erith.
A video shared with News Shopper shows smoke billowing above trees where the fire took hold.
A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman confirmed: "We were called at 2.09pm to a field alight on Whitehall Lane, Erith.
"One and three-quarter hectares of land were damaged by the fire, which was brought under control by 3.41pm.
"Two fire engines were in attendance."
She added that, although the brigade does not investigate the cause of grass fires, the hot and dry weather makes them more likely to break out, often caused by small factors like dropped cigarette butts.
