Donald Trump may have been invited to visit the UK next month, but councillors in Greenwich are prepared to give him a frosty reception should he venture into the royal borough.

Last year Greenwich Council hit the headlines when it barred the US President from its jurisdiction.

Following the controversial situation with migrant families being separated at the US-Mexico border,  councillors made it clear that the ban was still very much in place.

Council leader Danny Thorpe said at a full council meeting: “His behaviour and the disregard he has shown for human values he has shown since we passed the motion is beyond disgusting.

“I think all of us reaffirm these are not our values and they are not the values of decent human beings and actually certainly they’re not the values of Americans. Our position still stands.

“We are also increasingly concerned that up to 10,000 police officers are being taken off of the streets to protect this man, I think that should be a concern for all of us.”

Councillors previously called for the President’s trip to be abandoned over his retweeting of far right group Britain First.

He was barred from the borough in December, with the council expressing “alarm at the decision of President Trump to retweet Islamophobic propaganda” and “sadness at [his] bigoted attitude towards women and ethnic minorities”.

Donald Trump is set to visit the UK on Friday, July 13.
