Travellers who rocked up in Beckenham over the weekend have been moved on.

Reports online suggested caravans had taken over Croydon Road Recreation Ground on Sunday (June 24).

Kate Lymer, Bromley's executive councillor for public protection and enforcement, said: "We will take action to end any illegal encampment on land that the council is responsible for.

"When we became aware of a potential illegal incursion on Croydon Road Recreation Ground on Sunday afternoon, our parks ward security team attended the site and were able to make sure that the recreation ground remained secure.

"The travellers then left the immediate vicinity."

This comes a week after a number of caravans were spotted on Royston Field in Penge.

Bromley Council said at the time that "robust action" would be taken to prohibit any illegal encampment in the borough.
