A Chislehurst primary school has recruited the support of its former pupil, superstar Pixie Lott, for a fundraising campaign.

St. Nicholas C of E Primary School in Chislehurst is looking to raise £130,000 for its ‘Raise the Roof’ initiative, a campaign for the provision of new teaching spaces at the school.

The driving force behind the project was the late Donna Bompas, a local art teacher and community champion who was committed to helping the school and raising money for local causes.

After her passing in January, St. Nicholas’ got to work on ‘Raise the Roof’, which seeks to benefit the children and families of the school.

Pixie Lott, who was once a St. Nicholas Primary School pupil, is now lending her support to the fundraising initiative which has already raised over £55,000, thanks to donations from local residents.

“I loved my early years at St. Nicks and I’m still friends with people from my year,” she said

“I want to support ‘Raise the Roof’ to enhance the school for future generations.”

St. Nicholas Primary School first opened in 1836, however the Victorian schoolhouse was originally designed to cater for half the pupils now attending. Due to cramped spaces, there are limited opportunities for creative learning or IT and science teaching.

With the money raised by the campaign, St. Nicholas’ hopes to build a small extension that will allow for new classrooms, as well as a fully-equipped creative learning studio.

‘Raise the Roof’ plan to hold a series of events to hit their target of £130k whilst drawing the tight-knit community together. Upcoming events include a garden party, a golf day and a Thames riverboat cruise.
