A warning has been issued about scam text messages informing people that a parcel is ready for collection.
A woman on a local Facebook group has warned not to click on any links for parcel collection, especially if you have not ordered anything.
She said: “Just received a text message I have a parcel from Currys to collect via parcels4u. Suspicious as I haven't ordered anything, I looked on the parcel4u website and it is a scam. Do NOT click on the link in the text msg.”
These messages are sent at random claiming to come from reputable organisation such as banks or mobile phone companies.
They will then try and get you to verify orders and specific details via links, which you should NOT click on, as this can give the fraudsters access to saved information on your phone.
These messages will often attempt to catch you off-guard, telling you to act urgently or face a fee or other consequences.
What else do you need to know?
A reputable company will never ask you to verify details by text message.
A reputable company will never ask for your bank details
Do not reply to the message
Do not click on any links
If you think you have responded to a scam, contact your bank immediately
