News Shopper is today launching something new to celebrate what’s old.

Our nostalgia group is a place for people to share their photos and memories of south-east London and north Kent.

The aim is to provide a platform for fond reminiscences on our local places as they used to be, including where people grew up, studied, worked and enjoyed their leisure time.

You can find the News Shopper Nostalgia Group on Facebook and request to join here

Focusing on the period from the 1950s to the 2000s, it is somewhere to discuss the people, events, pubs, shops, schools, sports clubs, fashions, crazes and everything else warmly remembered from years gone by.

Whether it’s new train lines coming or never-ending building and ‘improvement’ work, life moves forward at a rapid pace – but sometimes it’s good to put the brakes on and look back, and we hope our nostalgia group gives people the chance to do that.

With six decades to cover, we’re confident people who join the group will have some fascinating contributions to make.

And we hope they find the group useful, whether for asking questions and information gathering, re-uniting with old friends or just having fun conversations about retro times with other people who have called this great part of the world home during their lives.

We'll be running projects on particular themes from time to time, and competitions with a monthly prize of £50 up for grabs.
