A former park ranger is furious that “nothing is being done” to stop illegal fishing at Keston Ponds in Bromley.

Rules supposedly enforced at the site mean it is illegal to fish at the ponds between March 15 and June 15.

However, Lionel Kallow, 69, believes people are ignoring the ‘do not fish’ signs.

He told News Shopper: “It is a beautiful place, but fish are being abused and it makes my blood boil.

“People are illegally fishing there every single day. They seem to think they have a right to fish there. It is terrible what people do.”

The Environment Agency confirmed to News Shopper that they “are aware of illegal fishing in the area”.

However, at the time of publishing, they could not provide a further comment.

Mr Kallow is encouraging people to photograph suspected offenders to inform the authorities.

He added: “It doesn’t make sense that we don’t pass harsh sentences for this. They should be named and shamed as a deterrent.

“It is non-stop and going on all the time. It is a time for the fish to rest and have a break from this.

“I am sick and tired of it and nobody cares. These are horrible and nasty people who have nothing to do all afternoon.”
