A photo of two ducks looking perilously over a waterfall has been chosen as the News Shopper Camera Club picture of the month for February.

Video is a fine medium but sometimes a still image has more of an impact, and that was the case with this image from Lee Price.

The photo he captured at Five Arches in Foots Cray Meadows, captioned “You jump first and I’ll follow”, was a perfect moment in time and more interesting than moving footage of the scene would have been.

February was the strongest month yet in the nine months our camera club has been running.

Our shortlist of possible photos of the month wasn’t very short at all, with 31 images from the hundreds submitted in contention for the accolade and the £50 prize.

Lee’s picture just pipped the others to be chosen as our favourite.

The News Shopper Camera Club is a group on Facebook for people looking to get their photos published online and in print.

Now with 490 members, the club invites people to share their best photos from around SE London and north Kent, as well as talk to fellow photographers, join in projects and enter competitions.

If you’re an enthusiastic amateur snapper, you can request to join the group and then once accepted you’ll be able to add your pictures to the group, join in the conversation and contests and also possibly have some of your photos used in the newspaper or on our website.

Our March competition is searching for the best photos of wildlife in the area, and we’re also looking for pictures of pubs.
