A popular café in Woolwich has just closed its doors, but a locally-run French artisanal bakery is set to take its place.

Cornerstone Café, right by the Royal Arsenal on Major Draper Street next to Tesco Express, had its last day on January 28 before it closed its doors for good.

But it will soon be replaced by Boulangerie Jane, a bakery that started its life in Blackheath and is now set to expand even further.

Boulangerie Jade is something of a local success story, opening their first bakery in Blackheath and have now expanded to two other bakeries within the town, a new one in East Dulwich, and now this new one in Woolwich.

Eunice Alves, one of the directors, said: “If everything goes well, we will open next week on February 12, but I don’t know if that will be possible. If not, we will open the next day for sure.

“We have been very successful, this last year especially has been very good for us.

“We are a French bakery, we are going to have coffee and brunch and lots of fine French pastries.”
