The Slade on Plumstead Common is set for a new cafe and arts venue as plans are finalised.
An unusual public convenience will become the new site for the venue and will bring the Plumstead community together in this new project.
Councillor Danny Thorpe, Deputy Leader, said: “I am delighted to see this project moving forward, taking an unused building and transforming it into a creative, welcoming café and community hub that we hope will be used by local residents and the wider community.”
Contractors will be finalising the detailed design of the building all in time for construction works to begin on site in March.
The designs for the new build will see a new, light-filled, creative and café space that will remain in keeping with the Plumstead Common Conservation area.
The final result will be more than just a cafe it will be a community hub and focal point, with art displays and events.
The leaseholder is expected to be decided in the spring and the new café is scheduled to open summer 2018.
