Northumberland Heath residents took to the streets this week to clean up their neighbourhood.
Along with councillors, community support officers and Bexley council staff, the group worked hard for three hours to clean the area of litter.
The group cleaned the area around the library, alleyways, roads and part of the high street.
Northumberland Heath Family Church helped to keep the team going by providing them with refreshments.
Councillor Peter Craske, cabinet member for community safety, environment and leisure, said: “Helping to keep the places we live and work clean is good for everyone and the environment. This group have proved they are real advocates for ‘doing their bit’ and taking ownership, working alongside the Police to tidy up their local area. It’s great to see this kind of community project in action.”
The clean-up was arranged in partnership with Bexley’s Police.
Some of the residents that took part are part of the volunteer Community Litter Pickers scheme in Bexley. The scheme currently has over 150 members. To find out more about the scheme visit Community Litter Pickers.
