Wandsworth is worst of all with almost 1,300 holes, while Lewisham also makes the top 10 most potholed places.

Earlier this year the RAC warned that potholes could appear at "unprecedented rates" in 2017, thanks to a combination of the weather and more traffic on our roads.

The Local Government Association recently warned 2017 could be a "tipping point" for tackling potholes as it said the bill for repairing roads in England and Wales could reach £14 billion within two years.

In a bid to raise awareness of the pothole problem, meat company Peperami launched a campaign by putting flags around every hole it could find overnight.

The stunt aimed to draw attention to the number of holes on the pavements and roads just waiting to be filled in.

Peperami is also recruiting a Peper-Army of fans across the country to tell it about the worst holes in their area.

A spokesperson for Peperami said: “Peperami’s mission in life is to fill hungry stomach holes.

“However, there’s nothing we find more annoying than empty holes in the street and London is plagued with annoying craters.

“We reckoned it was about time something was done so we sent Animal out on the street to give the potholes a good porking.”

According to community-led website Fillthatholoe.org.uk more than 3,500 new potholes have opened up since the start of this year.
