Serena Hunt, a student from Bromley High and part of the Young Reporter Scheme, has recently been involved with the Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Christmas Tree Project.

Competing against other Young Reporters, she won the opportunity to cover the project and attend the various events held in Bexley.

She said: “I felt humbled meeting various people from the local communities who were passionate about trying to make a difference to children from less fortunate backgrounds. I truly believe that the Commissioner's Christmas Tree Project is a wonderful example of what the Christmas spirit should be about.”

The project was launched on November 9 in Bexley, with a Christmas tree being decorated with tags for people to take and attach to their gifts.

Currently, there are 1156 children up to 17 years of age in the care of Bexley Council and by the close of the project on December 9, the Bexley Metropolitan Police had received this number of presents all wrapped and tagged ready for delivery.

PC Richard Bradford said: “Serena is very confident in her approach especially when asking pertinent questions about the ‘Commissioner Christmas tree project’. She is professional and showed her commitment by taking the time to attend Metropolitan Police public events where gifts were donated to the children in care and need in Bexley. Having read her report I am very impressed.

“The ‘Newsquest’ junior reporter’s scheme is excellent and I look forward to working with ‘Newsquest’ and more junior reporters in the near future.”
