A young Bexleyheath boxer is throwing all the right punches for a shot at the national championships.

"Dangerous" Danny Davis, 16, from Littleheath Road, is jabbing his was through the amateur boxing scene after winning two golds at the Chairman’s Box Cup England tournament on October 1 and 2 in Liverpool.

Danny battled two contenders to take the double gold in the under 57kg weight class.

He said: “The feeling was unreal.

“It's hard to explain.

“It gives you the biggest buzz honestly.

“Without sounding cocky or overconfident I really went into the ring with a massive winner mentality.

“Before I went into the fight I knew I was going to walk away with the golds.

“Sometimes you need that to win.”

With his coaches John Green, 44, and George Powell, 23, the featherweight superstar is turning heads in and out the ring.

Team GB coaches have shown an interest in Danny’s career and all agree he has potential.

Since his schooldays at Harris Academy Falconwood, the local hero has moved onto the Frank Bruno Boxing Academy where he is working towards a personal trainer qualification.

The level-headed athlete is hoping the council are taking note too after they announced historic rent hikes to his training ground, the Danson Youth Centre, creating a £110,000 funding gap in July.

“I think Bexley Council is starting to get the message about how everyone needs the Danson Centre open,” Danny said, “Me winning the championship looks good on the council.

“I’m a product of Bexley and I am a product of Danson.”

The next challenge ahead for the young fighter will be the National Amateur Boxing Championships in November.
