Cars were crushed and homes left without water after a burst pipe in Crayford caused chaos over the weekend.
Video shared on social media shows the shocking aftermath of the flood, with much of the Crayford Retail Park underwater.
Up to 16 vehicles in the Town Hall development were damaged when the flood waters caused the floor of the car park to swell and rise.
Residents were reportedly warned that if any of the cars were removed too hastily it could result in a gas explosion.
One owner was told her car was written off as a result of the damage.

Emergency bottled water was brought in while many residents in Bexley, Dartford and Greenwich had their supply cut off.
Sadia Farzana Chitra, 42, left her black Ford Fusion in one of the affected parking spaces on Saturday, and returned to find it ruined.
The mother of two said: "My car is crushed, the roof is gone, the ground has come up - it is a bad architectural design.
"I had another of my neighbours with me and her car was okay, but we were told we cannot move it because there is a possibility with the pressure of the car there could be a blast because of the gas inside, or something. It can blow up the whole building."

Thames Water senior operations manager Danny Leamon said it was an "extremely difficult repair" due to the location and depth of the pipe.
He said yesterday: “The second burst and flooding is now under control and water pressure should be returning to normal for customers.
"We’re really sorry for this added disruption our work is causing, and are doing everything possible to get things back to normal as quickly as possible."
