CCTV images of a man detectives would like to speak to have been released as part of an investigation into a reported arson in Dartford.

Police were called at 10.45pm on Saturday when a person was allegedly seen acting suspiciously outside flats in Kent Road.

The man was reported to have set fire to the front of gas meters, which were housed in a small wooden cupboard, before walking off in the direction of the Westgate car park.

The fire was put out by a person living in the building, before police and fire crews attended the scene.

Following an e-fit appeal the following day, officers have now issued CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to.

Police would also like to talk to a woman who was seen hugging the man in the CCTV before she went into a local nightclub.

She is described as white, in her twenties, with brown hair which was tied up. She was wearing a black top with a floral pattern on. She also had a black bag and was wearing black trousers.

Detective constable Phil Pead said: “Setting fire to gas meters could have resulted in serious injuries to the occupants of the surrounding properties.

“It was only by sheer luck that no one was injured and this fire was found by a resident and put out. I would encourage anyone who recognises this man to get in touch.”

Witnesses or anyone with information can call the appeal line on 01474 366149 quoting reference XY/34806/16.
