Fire crews have dealt with a blaze in Hither Green after 'thick black smoke' was seen pouring out of a block of flats earlier today.
Four engines and 21 firefighters were sent to the blaze at a second floor flat in Oakwood Close.
A resident who lives nearby said he could see people shouting at others on their balconies to get out of the block, as well as a cat being thrown from one of the flats.
The 35-year-old told News Shopper: "I could see flames and lots of thick black smoke coming from all windows.
"People from other flats came out on their balconies to see what was happening and people shouted at them to get out.
"I think firemen must have got in now as windows are open wide and less smoke.
"Though I can still just about see it coming out of main front windows."
A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said half of the flat was damaged in the blaze which began just after 12pm.
Crews from Lewisham, Lee Green, Forest Hill and Eltham fire stations attended the scene and the cause is so far unknown.
