A man has appeared in court after a car being pursued by police crashed into pedestrians, killing a boy and his aunt in Penge.

Joshua Dobby, 23, went before Bromley Magistrates' Court today charged with two counts of causing death dangerous driving and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He was also charged with two counts of causing death by driving whilst unlicensed and uninsured and two counts of aggravated vehicle taking.

Ten-year-old Makayah McDermott and his aunt Roxanne Cooper were killed in Lennard Road on Wednesday when a car being pursued by police ploughed into them.

Makayah's twin sisters, Niyah and Yahla, 13, were injured in the crash, and taken to hospital with multiple injuries, along with Ms Cooper's eight-year-old daughter.

The twins were trapped underneath the black Ford Focus but managed to crawl out when bystanders lifted the car off them.

Dobby, of no fixed address, was charged with the offences late last night.

In court he spoke only to confirm his name and age.

No bail application was made during the short hearing and Dobby was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on September 30.

Tributes have poured in for the victims, as people continue to lay flowers near the scene of the crash.

Bromley Football Club has paid tribute to Makayah, who was a player in the under 11s team.

They said in a statement: "Makayah was a popular boy with a beaming smile that nobody can forget.

"Having been at the club since 2014, many of our players will have known him.

"Many families from the Junior Section will also remember Makayah and his family from the Great Yarmouth tour in April."

They added: "As a club we will be offering our condolences and support to the family.

"Over the coming days we will be considering how to mark Makayah’s passing and honour his memory, which will mean some emotional times as we all pay our respects."

Makayah was a talented performer and just last week had an audition for a part in a television series set in the 1950s.

His agent, Sam Brown, managing director of Brown and Mills Entertainment, said she signed Makayah in June, and described his family as "a very, very talented bunch".

Samantha Dobson, who had been a client and friend of hairdresser Ms Cooper for a decade, tearfully placed a floral tribute and card at the scene of the incident.

Describing her friend, she said: "She was one of the kindest, most beautiful, caring people you would ever meet. Her life was her family and her daughter. Her unit was her mum, her sister and her nieces and nephews."
