More than 300 people were given a clean bill of health at a makeshift street clinic in Bexleyheath.

The people of Gateway Chapel, Erith, took to the town centre to spread awareness of good health and their own health checkups.

With a rise in the number of people with noncommunicable diseases in the UK, the group and their partners were able to carry out 170 lung function tests and 130 blood pressure checks.

High blood pressure is the main risk factor for strokes and a major risk factor for heart attack, heart failure and kidney disease.

In partnership with seven of the UK's biggest health organisations, the congregation at the mission wanted to promote health awareness, prevention and risk management techniques in order to rule out children and families suffering from preventable deaths.

As well as tests carried out on July 30, about 60 people were given advice from Diabetes UK, 70 people got information on male organ issues and 57 people got oral health advice for children brushing their teeth.

John Toju Ogbe, minister for outreach said: "This is just one of our ways of supporting and giving back to our community.

“We share a sense of belonging for all groups in society and this is a great gift to give."
