Expect delays on the M25 after a van fire at Swanley this morning (January 8), and a lorry crash in the Dartford Tunnel half an hour later.

Highways England said the smash involved two lorries - on the anticlockwise route between the junctions for West Thurrock, Essex, and Swanscombe.

The left tunnel was closed for around an hour until 1pm, as was the the slip road at junction 1a, for Swanscombe, and two lanes on the Dartford Tunnel approach.

All lanes have since re-opened, but queues remain.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "We received a report of a two vehicle collision in the Dartford Tunnel at 11.37am, involving two lorries.

"The tunnel was completely clear by 1.06pm. There are no reports of any serious injuries."

Highways England expected the queues to clear by 2.45pm.

Meanwhile drivers were sat in two-mile queues between the Swanley Interchange and Orpington, following a van fire earlier today.

Traffic was held for 25 minutes at 11am - whilst the flames were put out.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Two appliances attended a van alight at 10.54am and crews in breathing apparatus extinguished the fire, which destroyed 100 engine and passenger compartment.

"They left the scene at 11.18am."

All lanes have since been re-opened.
