A man has been jailed and banned from keeping animals for life this week after a Rottweiler was found so emaciated that it died on the way to the vets.

Logan Duncan, 23, of Sandbach Place, Greenwich, pleaded guilty last month to causing unnecessary suffering to the dog, named Oscar, by failing to provide adequate veterinary care for his declining condition and failing to provide a suitable environment whilst Oscar was in his care.

He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, given a life-long disqualification on all animals and made to pay £730 in costs.

The RSPCA had been called in December 2014 with concerns about Oscar and an inspector found him collapsed, starved and suffering from a severe skin condition.

RSPCA inspector Callum Isitt said: "It was a very sad Christmas last year. The sight of poor Oscar was heartbreaking - he was skin and bone.

"It would have been obvious to anyone that something was seriously wrong.

"He was unable to get to his feet and had to be carried to my van. I rushed him straight to the vets but very sadly he died en route."
