A scared schoolgirl who was hit by a car in Northfleet is warning children of the "dangers" of crossing the road.
11-year-old Nikita Page was knocked down in Vale Road at 4.30pm last Tuesday (September 15), while walking home from a nearby skate park with a friend.
Residents rushed to help the injured Northfleet School for Girls pupil, covering her with blankets until the emergency services and her mum arrived.
Nikita, who lives in Park Avenue, told News Shopper: "I thought I was dreaming.
"My phone got one little crack and I got lots of damage.
"I have got cuts and friction burns from the tyre.
Nikita suffered friction burns on her leg
"I did not feel anything until about 10 minutes after - then it was really painful and I let out a big scream."
The experience was both mentally and physically scarring for Nikita, who was signed off school until today.
She added: "It's hard for me to walk.
"I have got lacerations on my foot and the back of my shoes are ruined.
"I am really scared - I don't like the roads.
"I want my mum to walk me to school now."
Nikita said she walked cautiously but could not see past parked cars, and is now warning other kids to stay safe.
She added: "I want them to know about the dangers, because they could get hit like I did.
"Check both ways, or find someone else to look over.
"Be careful - it only takes one step."
Nikita was treated by South East Coast Ambulance Service after the accident, before being passed into the care of her mum, Kayley Page, who later took her to Gravesham Hospital.
Nikita also had brusing on her face
The 28-year-old mum-of-two said: "I got told she had been hit by a car, and that's a parent's worst nightmare.
"My stomach felt sick.
"I can't really sleep. I keep getting up to check she's OK.
"It was the worst feeling in the world, knowing it's your child who's been knocked over."
Ms Page said the accident was 'a parent's worst nightmare'
The concerned mum added: "Vale Road is not a road I would recommend any child to use, but unfortunately it's one of the roads children have to use.
"It's quite worrying when you know a young child is walking there or back."
Ms Page now plans to visit and thank the residents who helped Nikita.
She said: "They wrapped her up and kept her warm.
"God bless them, they looked after her until I got there."
