MINICABS will be allowed to stop on red routes if plans proposed by Mayor Ken Livingstone are approved.
The mayor intends to give London's licensed, private hire vehicles the same right to pick up and set down passengers on the capital's red route roads as black cabs.
Drivers will have to display additional signs on their vehicles to benefit from the ruling.
They will also be allowed to display contact details on their cars, which customers can use to pre-book transport.
The changes are expected to be introduced later this year after a consultation with interested parties Mr Livingstone said: "London now has a fully licensed private hire trade, which is benefiting passengers by improving standards and increasing choice.
"As a logical next step, I am pleased to announce proposals for this new exemption for licensed minicabs."
