Fire crews battled a blaze which destroyed a grass embankment the length of four football pitches in Erith on Saturday (July 18).
Emergency services were called at around 3.45pm to reports of a grass fire at Dayton Drive.
London Fire Brigade sent six fire engines to the scene and 35 firefighters and officers, who spent more than three hours bringing the fire under control.
Station Manager Gary Thompson said: “Firefighters worked hard in arduous hot conditions to get the fire out and limit damage.
“It is vital that during these warm dry days to not throw lit cigarettes onto open grass land.”
Met Police also attended.
