Children and residents from around south east London will take to the stage in a community opera in Blackheath tonight.
More than 200 locals are taking part in Idomeneo, which opens at Blackheath Halls tonight and runs until Sunday.
The annual project involves children from Mulgrave Primary School in Woolwich, Beecroft Garden Primary School in Brockley, Greenvale School in Lewisham and Charlton Park Academy.
MORE THEATRE AND COMEDY:
Mozart’s opera Idomeneo is the show they’re working on alongside a cast of professional soloists in a fully-staged production.
Beckenham-based director James Hurley said: “A community opera is just a wonderful way of bringing the community together and of introducing people to opera who would not normally go.
“It offers children who might never have even heard of opera before, the fantastic opportunity of being in one alongside professional soloists. It can be such a special experience for them and I’ve been so impressed by their commitment and enthusiasm.”
