BOB Neill MP has given his support to plans to build a new doctors' surgery on green belt land.

The Bromley and Chislehurst MP visited the Bromley Common Practice, Pope Road, last Monday after it cut 1,800 patients from its list due to overcapacity.

Plans to build a replacement surgery on the Blue Circle site, Crown Lane, Bromley, have been submitted as part of a larger development by Asprey Homes.

The plans include a new surgery, housing, nursing home, playground and bus interchange.

Mr Neill said: "As far as the Blue Circle site is concerned, I think the new health centre site is an exceptional circumstance under the rules which control the release of green belt land.

"The current planning application also includes houses, which is more problematic.

"I am now fixing a meeting with the PCT to see if there is another way of funding the new health centre."

Bromley Common Practice manager Kate Watney said: "Mr Neill was sympathetic and has offered advice and any other assistance to help find the practice the newer, larger premises it so badly needs.

"With other practices hitting the headlines, general practice accommodation is clearly an issue which will not go away."
