Music students at a Chislehurst school have been offered the rare opportunity to perform before industry professionals at a critically-acclaimed guitarist’s album launch.
Ron E Carter has been getting students at his former secondary Coopers School on Hawkwood Lane ready to perform at the launch of his third album, Cherokee.
The concert at Chislehurst’s Beaverwood Club on April 28 will open with performances from Beatrice Kudokaite, Gabriel Olayera, Shahar Mizrahi and Cavan Murray.
Mr Carter, who was temporarily blinded in a car crash in his teens and worked as a lawyer before giving it up to pursue music, has teamed up with the school’s music department.
He said: “It can be hard plotting your way through the music industry with many paths leading no-where.
“I am hoping that by allowing the students to showcase their talent it will help spur them on.”
Emma Watson, the school’s head of music, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our young performers to shine and to expose them to the realities of a live performance.”
