A literacy project is appealing for volunteers to boost Thamesmead families' reading skills.
The project will help parents, whose children are between two and five, to support their kids’ skills through reading, singing, nursery rhymes, drawing and crafts.
The Early Words Together literacy project, led by Trust Thamesmead in partnership with National Literacy Trust and Save the Children, is part of housing association Peabody Group’s drive to improve reading abilities during a child’s first years of development.
This can have a significant impact on increasing cognitive abilities and language skills later in life.
Peabody’s director of community programmes Veronica Kirwan said: "The Early Words Together literacy programme empowers parents to support their child’s early literacy development.
"It also supports families and helps build volunteer capacity and skills in the local community."
Potential volunteers should call Sarah Feleppa on 020 8320 4490 or email sfeleppa@trust-thamesmead.co.uk
Families wanting to participate in the project should email tnorcott@trust-thamesmead.co.uk
