A Gravesend man who sexually abused a young girl for a year has been locked up for 13-and-a-half years.

Kent Police investigated after it was reported Alan Clarke, of Pier Road, had sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl on numerous occasions.

The 31-year-old was arrested in November 2013 and later charged with causing or inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity and three counts of sexual assault.

He denied the allegations throughout a trial at Maidstone Crown Court in December, but was found guilty by a jury.

Clarke was jailed at the same court last Friday (March 6).

He must also register as a sex offender.

Detective Sergeant Jayne Thomas, of Kent Police’s public protection unit, said: ‘‘Kent Police’s absolute focus is the victim in such matters, as well as providing them with the justice they so rightly deserve in order to have some closure and move forward with their lives.

“I wish this brave young victim and family the very best for the future.

“I would urge those who have experienced abuse to report it to police, you will be treated with respect and dignity at all times.”
