Two memorial benches will be unveiled in Dartford’s Central Park in tribute to those who lost their lives in war and those still serving in conflict.

They will be revealed to the public this morning (March 11) at 11am with a special ceremony led by Dartford Council leader Councillor Jeremy Kite.

He said he was delighted by the hundreds of responses received in response to a recent appeal to show support for past and current servicemen and women.

Coun Kite said: "We have commissioned these new benches to show we will never forget the sacrifice made by so many and also to demonstrate the huge commitment of Dartford people to honour those serving today.

"They will be a fine addition to the memorial gardens in Central Park and I thank the hundreds of local people who took the time to pledge their support."

"When it’s all done, we will present the names of all those who have pledged support to Dartford Museum so future generations will be able to research how the new benches came about and how many people wanted them."

Dartford Council has received hundreds of pledges of support for the country’s armed forces.

Everyone is invited to attend the unveiling at Central Park at 11am.
